YOUR PRIVACY
Privacy Policy.
How information is used when you type, find Scripture and visit our website.

Who we are
Maphari Technologies operates VerseKey, a Bible keyboard for iPhone and iPad, and this website. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected] and include “VerseKey privacy” in the subject. You do not need a VerseKey account to use the app.
Typing and the apps you use
VerseKey uses text context supplied by iOS or iPadOS locally for keyboard behaviour such as sentence capitalisation and cursor handling. We do not operate a service that collects your ordinary typing or surrounding conversations. Text you insert into Messages or another app is handled by that app and its own privacy practices. Copy actions you choose place text on your device’s clipboard.
Bible searches and online requests
References, search words or phrases, and translation identifiers are sent to Scripture providers to find and retrieve passages. A phrase search may send your query to more than one provider and translation. Providers also receive connection information such as your IP address and request headers. Searches may reveal personal interests or beliefs; avoid entering sensitive personal information in the Bible search field.
Depending on the translation or request, VerseKey uses Bible API, API.Bible, YouVersion and the ESV API. Some requests may use fallback services from Bible.org or getBible. These providers process requests under their own privacy policies and terms. Their services may process information outside your country.
Allow Full Access
Full Access allows an iOS or iPadOS custom keyboard to make network requests and write to storage shared with its containing app. VerseKey uses it for online Scripture features and verse history. The system’s keyboard permission warning describes what the permission allows; it does not mean VerseKey uploads everything you type.
You can disable it in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → VerseKey. Normal typing remains available, while online Scripture search and browsing require Full Access. Apple explains keyboard open access here.
Information stored on your device
Settings such as your preferred translations, insertion format, haptics and onboarding status are stored locally. The app and keyboard share relevant settings and verse history. History contains the reference, translation, insertion time and inserted Scripture text, with up to 100 recent entries. Recent emoji selections are also stored locally to support the Recently Used section. Fetched Scripture may be cached on the device to reduce repeat requests.
There is no VerseKey account-based history sync. You can delete individual entries in History. Removing an entry does not delete a passage already inserted or sent elsewhere. Device backups may contain app settings and history, depending on your Apple backup settings; Apple controls backup storage and restoration. Deleting VerseKey removes its app data from the device, subject to the operating system’s storage and backup behaviour.
Optional in-app payments
Optional developer tips are processed through Apple’s In-App Purchase system inside VerseKey. Apple handles checkout and payment details; Maphari Technologies does not receive your payment card number. The app receives product and transaction information needed to verify a purchase and show its status. Apple may also provide transaction and sales records for reporting and accounting. Apple handles its records under App Store & Privacy.
This website does not accept payments or collect payment card details. Tips are voluntary payments to Maphari Technologies, a commercial company, and do not unlock features or create a subscription.
Customer support
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to share, such as your email address, device details, issue description and attachments. We use it to answer your request, investigate problems and improve VerseKey. Please remove private conversations and other sensitive information from screenshots. Support communications and relevant records are retained for as long as needed to handle the request and meet applicable legal obligations; you can ask us to delete information we no longer need.
Website, analytics and diagnostics
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes technical information, including IP addresses, browser information and requested pages, to deliver and protect the website. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. Fonts, images and demonstration videos are served with the site. We do not add advertising trackers, analytics scripts or tracking cookies to this website, and VerseKey does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Technical diagnostics may include request URLs, Scripture references and error details. If you choose to share diagnostics with us, we use them to investigate the issue. Apple and Scripture providers may separately process diagnostics and connection records under their own policies. We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can change VerseKey’s settings, disable Full Access, remove the keyboard, delete history entries and manage device backups. To request access, correction or deletion of information you have shared with Maphari Technologies, or to object to processing where applicable, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and some records may need to be retained to meet legal obligations. We cannot delete records held independently by Apple, Scripture providers or the apps in which you share text; contact those providers for their records.
If you are in South Africa, you may also raise a privacy complaint with the Information Regulator. Rights available to you depend on applicable law.
Children and changes to this policy
VerseKey does not require a user profile or ask for a child’s age or other personal details. Parents or guardians can manage keyboard permissions and in-app payment restrictions using Apple’s device controls. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through support, contact us so we can address it.
We update this policy when our features or information practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Contact Maphari Technologies if you have questions about a change.
